SDA History Program

Dear Judy,
I just discovered  your website and really haven't had much time to explore it yet...but do plan too.  I wanted to get my question out before I started to find the answer myself
I currently homeschool my three kids. We are seventh Day Adventists.  I am looking for a history program for my daughter (10th grade). I was wondering if you knew of any Seventh Day Adventist slanted history programs out there. Almost every denomination has their own "version" to history. So why not us?

I believe that our church does have an SDA History program . You will find this unique program in The Conflict of the Ages series.

The Story of Patriarchs and Prophets covers Bible history by illustrating lives of Holy men found in the Bible.

The Story of Prophets and Kings is about the captivity and restoration of Israel beginning with the reign of King Solomon to the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Desire of Ages of course is the story of the life of Jesus

The Acts of the Apostles covers the proclamation of the Gospel and God’s purpose for His church.

The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan covers the destruction of Jerusalem to 1900’s and includes SDA prophetic history.

I know these books may seem old fashioned or boring, but they are God’s gift to our church!

I’ve found a wonderful resource to make the study of these books more interesting. Living By Principle is the perfect high school Bible/History curriculum. This little book is a four-year daily plan to study the Conflict of the Ages and the Bible, cross-referencing in each one. It’s only $1.50 and is available from The Moore Foundation Curriculum Catalog.

There is also My Covenant published by Review & Herald Publishing available at your ABC. It is a one-year Bible reading guide with a five-year Spirit of Prophecy reading guide.

For the younger child there is a great set of books entitled The Bible Pageant Series. Written by Merlin Neff, published by Pacific Press in 1949, these are children’s versions of the Conflict of the Ages . Titles are Brave Pioneers, Conquering Heroes, Kings and Queens, The Mighty Prince and Warriors of the Cross. These are available at a few ABC’s, in church and school libraries, used SDA book sources such as Lost and Found Books—www.lnfbooks.com or Leaves of Autumn—520/474-3654.

For the children aged 10-14 the War of the Ages Series written by Sally Pierson Dillon is a wonderful resource. This five-volumes set available from your ABC, teaches Christian History and fundamentals of SDA belief through the story of the great controversy from Adam to the new earth retold through the eyes of children who could have been there.

Now, you see why I think that SDA’s do have their own, unique, God-given History curriculum! May God guide you as you educate your children for Him is my prayer for each of you.
