Job Opportunity: Homeschooling Mother
I was recently waiting at the orthodontist office, it was a long
appointment for Tommy. Timothy and Aarika were playing with the many
stuffed animals in the waiting room jungle, so I picked up a popular
magazine for working mothers wishing I had brought some reading material
from home. Inside, the magazine, there was an article to help mothers find a fulfilling
job outside of the home. The questionnaire in the article was designed to help you
locate the perfect job and be fulfilled in your work.
Out of curiosity, I started reading the article and was soon
surprised to discover that- I had the perfect job -and I didn't even have to go
outside of my home to be fulfilled. (Something I already knew, but I was
surprised to see it confirmed.) Here are the questions from the survey,
along with my comments on my "perfect job." It's all in how you look at
things!
Offers Job Security: I couldn't quit if I wanted to and I can't be fired,
I'd say that's job security.
A Easy Commute: I think from the bedroom, down the stairs isn't a bad
commute. Usually I don't have to go that far before my perfect job begins!
Allows Personal Growth: Yes, I'm privileged to study the Bible during
daily devotions. I'm always learning more about child rearing,
organization, ways to solve a problem, designing a unit study, or
researching a new topic of personal interest.
Creative Thinking: Certainly--I have to figure out how to present a new
lesson, give learning opportunities, communicate with family members, and
keep up with each individual need.
Let's You Work With Your Hands: Let me count the ways, play dough,
diapers, washing dishes, Legos, cooking, blocks, cleaning, wiping faces,
dusting, and picking up- there's got to be many more.
Permits Casual Dress: Sure it does, my favorite outfit, jeans and
sweatshirt. Occasionally I've even been caught in my nightgown and robe late in the
morning. Oops.
Involves Teaching Others: Well let's see, teaching my children about
Jesus, manners, phonics, neatness, multiplication, spelling, etc. etc. All
day long, every day, what a special privilege!
Allows Privacy to Talk on the Phone: Maybe while the baby is asleep or if I
hide in the pantry maybe I could find some privacy.
Let's You Use Sales Skills: Selling a phonics lesson or an idea that your
children are against, like broccoli is good for you, and it really is time
for a nap.
Involves Constant Communication With Others: Yes, constantly.
Conversations like "Mom, what makes the sun shine?" "What happens when
you............?" "What are all those things floating around in the air in the
sunlight?" I remember the days when I longed for adult conversation, be
assured, children do grow up and then there's plenty of that.
Involves Travel: Sure it does. I go to the grocery store every
week, sometimes we go on field trips, occasionally I get to go to a
homeschool seminar and daily I get to take a nature walk with my favorite
people.
Requires Supervising Others: Yes it does. "Please pick up your toys."
"Finish your math lesson first." "Please take this to the kitchen."
"Please hang up this load of laundry." "Please help your little sister."
You get the idea.
Lets You Help Others Improve Their Lives: I really believe that I'm
improving my children's lives, by giving of myself, teaching them
dependence on God, practical skills, academic skills, and how to get
along in this world, etc.
Now I'm sure you can see why I concluded that not only do I have
the very best job around, but it gives me many precious memories and
moments that can't be duplicated anywhere each and every day. Fill out
the questionnaire yourself and remember why you too have the "perfect
job."
May you find fulfillment in being a wife and mother and in
teaching your children what is really important in life is my prayer for
you.
In His Love, Judy
