Missouri
Here's the official Missouri state homeschooling
organization website: http://www.fhe-mo.org/
In Missouri we are required to provide 1,000 hours of
instruction. At least 600 hours must be in five core subject areas of reading,
math, social studies, language arts, and science; at least 400 hours of the 600
must occur at the regular homeschool location.
The state's compulsory attendance law defines a homeschool as
a school that:
1."has as its primary purpose
the provision of private or religious-based instruction;
2.enrolls pupils between the ages of
seven and sixteen years, of which no more than four are unrelated". There
is no limit on number of related students and
3.does not charge or receive tuition,
fees or other remuneration.
Missouri homeschoolers must maintain the following records,
though there is no requirement to submit them to the state or local school
district:
1.a plan book, diary, or other record
indicating subjects taught and activities engaged in;
2.and a portfolio of samples of
child's academic work;
3.and a record of evaluations of the
child's academic progress, such as grade cards, standardized test scores, etc.
4.or other written, credible evidence
equivalent to the above
The state law provides for homeschooling families to register
with the recorder of deeds in the county where the child legally resides, but it
is not a requirement and Families for Home Education, the state home schooling
organization, advises against registering.
The state of Missouri does not dictate a home school to
include in its curriculum any concept, topic, or practice in conflict with the
school's religious doctrines.
The production by a parent of a daily log showing that a home
school has a course of instruction which satisfies the requirements of the state
compulsory attendance law is considered a defense to any prosecution and to any
charge or action for educational neglect.
